Carrick on Shannon came out on top of a match of two half’s. Balinrobe had a very dominant scrum and some very big rugby players but were locked out of the game in the first half with some excellent passing and interplay by the Carrick backs and forwards. An outstanding first break by the talisman Alaster Hewson led to first score by Mathew Ffrench. Scores continued to flow from both backs and forwards. The distribution from the new project number 10 was at times very good.
Five more try’s followed in the first half from Cathal Rian Charlie Alaster and Cody. In parts there was excellent flowing rugby, but errors were creeping in. The second half started with the score 34-0 to Carrick, but there was significant life left in Balinrobe, the ran in three excellent try’s before Carrick woke up and found their groove again. Their number 10 making 3 significant line breaks down the left wing the third of which resulted in a fantastic try. Carrick were reduced to 13 men due to an injury and an entirely. correct yellow card. But the positivity could not be repressed resulting in perhaps the try of the game be James Lynch, breaking from the half way and burning all opposition around him to score under the posts. The game ended Carrick 62 Balinrobe 24. A good honest context played in the best of spirits.
