U16 Boys Match Report
Carrick on Shannon travelled to Creggs on Saturday for their final U16 1A League fixture of 2025. Wintery conditions and a fierce crosswind made life difficult for both sides, with Carrick playing into the gale in the opening half.
Carrick struck first after just five minutes, when sustained pressure on the Creggs line allowed Gavin Hewson to power over for the game’s opening try. Creggs responded quickly with a score of their own and added another on 21 minutes, sending the teams into the break with the hosts leading:

Carrick emerged a different side in the second half. Cabhán McGourty broke through the Creggs defence to level the match, signalling a shift in momentum. From there, Carrick controlled proceedings, and despite some superb Creggs defending, it took another ten minutes before Colton Quinn forced his way over to give Carrick the lead, with Regan Hoey adding the conversion.
Carrick sealed the victory when McGourty crossed for his second try of the day, again converted by Hoey.

There was a super debut for Ciarán O’Kane and strong leadership shown by Sam Kieran and Gavin Hewson throughout.
