Carrick-on-Shannon U14s were away to Claremorris Colts Friday evening.
Perfect conditions and a new experience for the boys playing their first game under lights. Claremorris dominated possession and field position for the first 10 minutes. Carrick were repeatedly penalised at the ruck and were fortunate that the ball was adjudged to have been held up over the line. This proved to be the impetus Carrick needed who went on to score four high quality tries in the first half, all of which were converted.
Carrick started the second half as they finished the first, with the full travelling party of 25 all contributing on the field. Three further excellent team tries in the second half two of which were converted. All will be pleased with a very strong defensive performance with a much better press in open play which has been an area of opportunity for the side for much of the season. Claremorris were very unfortunate not to score late in the game, with the scoreboard not doing justice to their endeavour right to the final whistle.
The team look forward to welcoming Loughrea to the Castlecara next weekend.
