U13s Cup – Carrick RFC 40 – Galway Bay RFC 5

Carrick OS RFC 40
Galway Bay 5

Carrick-on-Shannon’s Under 13 Boys team were home to Galway Bay in the third round of the Cup on Saturday.

Having endured a heavy defeat away to Sligo the previous weekend and with players from the inclusive rugby program as flag bearers, the team were not short on motivation to put in a big performance. Played in perfect conditions the Carrick boys battled well to lead 21 to 5 at half time, with the second of three try’s being the pick of the bunch. Deep in their own 22 Carrick moved the ball wide at pace off a set piece, with a well timed final pass putting the winger away who showed blistering pace to score between the posts.

Carrick continued to keep the pressure on in the second half, showed good shape in both attack and defence but were fortunate at times not to be punished in the tight where support was not always as quick or assertive as it could be. Three further well worked tries in the second half, the last through a strong carry and unselfish offload in the tackle. Some excellent performances across the pitch including an exceptional day off the tee with 5 of 6 attempts converted.

Carrick look forward to their next Cup game away to Portumna in 3 weeks time.
