Carrick-on-Shannon’s Under 13 Boys team took advantage of the down week in the Cup for a friendly away to Cavan on Sunday.
A beautiful Spring day, a fast track and a high scoring encounter between two very well matched teams. Nip and tuck throughout the first half, with both teams on multiple occasions finding space out wide and Cavan shading it 24 to 19 on the scoreboard at the break. Cavan started the second half the stronger, again exploiting space out wide when Carrick did not adjust their defensive line quickly enough. However Carrick always looked dangerous with ball in hand and closed the game out with 3 great tries, the pick of which was a well executed cross field kick just outside the Cavan 22 that bounced up perfectly for the oncoming winger to gather and score.
Carrick look forward to their next Cup game away to Portumna in 2 weeks time.
