Claremorris Colts 26
Carrick-on-Shannon U14s welcomed Claremorris Colts to the Castlecara Road on Saturday.
Perfect conditions for rugby between two very evenly matched sides. Carrick started the stronger, putting together phase after phase and were rewarded for their ball retention with a converted try. Minutes later Carrick doubled their lead after a well executed pre rehearsed move off a midfield scrum. Claremorris powered back into the game, with their centres, particularly 12, repeatedly carrying exceptionally well to level the score by halftime.
Carrick started the second half as they had the first. Two unconverted tries followed with the home side showing glimpses of their potential in open play with some excellent interplay between backs and forwards. Claremorris again stepped it up and combined with mistakes from the home side took the lead through two tries of their own, one of which was converted. Carrick dominated the last quarter, a combination of positional adjustments and perhaps the stronger bench, scoring three unanswered tries, all converted.
A good win for the home side, some rustiness with county football just finished and lots for the group to work on, particularly without the ball. Our thanks to our guests Claremorris Colts and we look forward to an away game at Loughrea in two weeks time.
