Carrick’s U18.5s travelled to Ballinasloe on Sunday in the Connacht League but came out second best to their hosts on a scoreline of 24-42. In a helter skelter game with ten tries shared between the teams it was obvious that offense trumped defense in this entertaining game. Ballinasloe started the game with purpose scoring tries in the 3rd and 13th minutes before Carrick responded with their first score on 27 mins with a well worked try scored by Luke Charles. Two more tries by Ballinasloe saw them stretch their lead by half-time, but Carrick scored just on the stroke of half-time through a big forwards push that saw John Mee touch down. The half ended with Carrick trailing 12-24.
Carrick started the second half with real intent and scored a try through Rian Costello within 5 mins. Carrick’s ascendency was short-lived though as B’sloe responded with a try after 15 mins that ended Carrick’s comeback. Two further tries were shared by the teams, with Carrick’s final try a fine effort by the backs that say Oran Beirne dot down under the sticks. Great credit to both teams for a spirited and entertaining game.
Carrick’s U18.5s will be back in action on Sunday the 1st of March at home to Galwegians.
