U13s through to Connacht Plate Final

Carrick OS RFC 20
Creggs RFC 14

Carrick-on-Shannon’s Under 13 Boys team were at home to Creggs in the Plate semi final on Saturday.

A perfect day for running rugby, firm under foot with only a light breeze. Carrick were first to score when after 5 minutes the full back gathered a long clearance kick around the home 22 and through great work out wide got in for a try in the corner. Carrick scored 2 further tries in the first half and were well worth their 15 to 7 lead at the break.

Carrick was again first to score in the second half, a try from a team effort after sustained pressure. Both sides upped their intensity, with the home side putting in a strong defensive effort, contesting well at the ruck and making tackle after tackle. Creggs did get through for a try after 15 minutes, converted by their out half who was very impressive off the tee. A tense final 10 minutes in which Carrick put in the defensive performance of the season, held their shape and battled for every inch to close the game out.

Carrick look forward to the Plate final in the coming weeks.
