Loughrea RFC 7 Carrick RFC 0
Carrick RFC traveled to Loughrea on Saturday night for their final league game of the J1C Supers 4s season. Under the floodlights and in breezy conditions the home side started strongly and were rewarded after just 10 minutes. Loughrea’s backs put together a well-worked move breaking through Carrick’s defense to touch down for the only try of the match which was successfully converted. From there the game ebbed and flowed with both sides enjoying spells of possession. Strong defensive performances on both ends ensured that scoring opportunities were limited. While both teams showed attacking intent handling errors and turnovers prevented a free-flowing contest. The second half followed a similar pattern. Loughrea continued to press forward creating the better attacking chances but Carrick’s defense held firm. Despite mounting pressure the visitors remained resilient ensuring the game remained within reach until the final whistle. However neither side could add to the scoreboard and Loughrea held on to secure a hard-fought 7-0 victory. While Carrick may have fallen short on the night they can take pride in their league campaign. The result sees them finish in fourth place successfully retaining their J1C league status. Attention now turns to the upcoming J1C Cup final next Sunday with the time and venue set to be confirmed in the coming days. Supporters are encouraged to keep an eye on the club’s social media for updates. Despite the defeat Carrick will take confidence from their defensive performance and look to end their season on a high with silverware in the cup final.
