Carrick continued their Connacht U13 Cup campaign with an impressive victory at home to Galwegians this afternoon.
The pattern of the match resembled last week. Carrick started strong early on, taking control of the match and worked 3 tries to take a 19-0 lead. The gap could have been more and Carrick were made to pay as Galwegians struck back before half time, despite some heroic defence, to leave the score 19-5.
When the match restarted Carrick reestablished control and widened the gap with two more tries to leave victory within their grasp. Carricks ferocious defensive efforts took their toll and fresh legs were sent on to maintain momentum. Galwegians fought to the end with two consolation tries but the line came in time to leave Carrick victorious 29-17.
This was an extremely pleasing victory for coaches and players alike against one of Connachts largest clubs. All players again got to the chance to put their shoulders to the wheel in a win built on doing the basics correctly, measured aggression and monumental defence.
Our next test is an away friendly fixture under lights versus our friends Creggs RFC on Friday 30th Jan.
