Connacht U13 Cup – Carrick 12 Sligo 42

Carrick RFC’S progress in the Connacht u13 Cup was brought to a halt at the QF stage in Hamilton Park Sligo last Sunday.

The hallmark in this season of progress for this team has usually been built on whirlwind starts. This unfortunately did not come to pass as the home side , eager to avenge their defeat earlier in the season, took the game in an early chokehold and went about their task with vigour. Carrick were pinned in their own half and were overwhelmed by relentless attacks and were facing oblivion at HT being 0-35 down.

However to their credit, rather than letting the sky fall in, the players dusted themselves down and came out fighting in the second half. In a feisty determined performance they reclaimed pride and respect if not the result. Séimí Barra Murphy and Henry Gunn striking for the resistance with a try apiece.

The performance of the team was exemplified by the performance of 2nd half substitute Eoin Christie who treated incursions along his left touchline like a personal affront, and drove them back accordingly. A special word and best wishes to the luckless Fionnan Kelly who had to leave the field with another bad injury. Get Well Soon.

Though we look back on last Sunday’s result with regret we can look back on the season with much satisfaction. Significant scalps have been claimed, fresh talent has been unearthed and numerous players have improved remarkably. With committed players and committed coaches we look forward to further progress next season.

We of course conclude by giving sincere and heartfelt thanks to our committed parents who have been with us every step of the way. We cannot do what we do without your support and patience, for that we thank you.
