Boys U13 Bank of Ireland Connacht Cup

Carrick OS RFC 0
Connemara /Oughterard 17

Carrick-on-Shannon’s Under 13 Boys team were home to Connemara / Oughterard in the first round of the Cup on Saturday.

A very tightly contested first half with strong defensive performances by both sides that ended with no points on the scoreboard. While Carrick was probably marginally more on the defensive in a real arm wrestle of a game, they also came closest to scoring.

The second half started where the first left off with nothing between the teams until with 11 minutes to go Connemara / Oughterard got in for what would be the first of three unanswered late tries. A Carrick kick through and a strong individual run from deep was unlucky not to be rewarded with a try.

While Connemara / Oughterard were deserving of their win, Carrick will be disappointed that they didn’t perform better in the closing stages of the game. Carrick were just missing that little bit of spark that they have shown in previous games. That said there were a number of stand out performances that boys should be very proud of.

Carrick look forward to their next game away to Sligo in the second round of the Cup next weekend.
