Carrick’s U15’s travelled to a wet and windy Galway on Saturday to play Galway Bay RFC. This was the second encounter between these teams during the 25/26 Season with Carrick winning their home fixture.
The pitch conditions were dry despite wind and rain that would challenge skillsets.
Carrick played against a strong wind in the first half and managed the wind well with strong ball carrying by the forwards and good ball handling despite wet and windy conditions. Carrick scored four unanswered tries in the first half to take a half time lead of 0-24.
Carrick continued their form in the second half and whilst they could have made more use of the strong wind behind them, strong scrums and ball carrying by forwards gave Carrick’s back plenty of opportunities to attack. Good phase play and interplay between the forwards and backs allowed Carrick to score two more tries despite brilliant defensive work by Galway, especially in midfield and out wide. Carrick lead the match 0-36 with five minutes left.
After a period of good phase play by Galway Bay, they scored a well deserved team try to make the final score 5-36.
Despite the final score, Galway Bay made it hard work for Carrick, but in what was arguably Carrick’s best and most balanced team performance of the season so far, they found a way to retain possession well and covert their pressure into scores.
