Carrick started their Connacht U13 Cup campaign with a hard fought but emphatic away win against Ballina this afternoon.
Carrick took control early on, getting their first try within a minute and adding two more quickly to take a 15-0 lead. The gap could have been more as two tries went a begging through errors and indiscipline. Ballina taking advantage of the reprive gained a foothold in the game and eventually scored before half time to leave the score 15-5.
With the words of the coaches ringing in their ears the Carrick boys started the 2nd half with purpose. This time control was never relinquished with four more tries registered before the final whistle. Ballina, though outgunned but brave and valiant, fought for a consolation score but Carrick with renewed fresh legs from the bench were able to keep them out leaving the final score 41-5 to the visitors.
A great team effort to get the group campaign off to a flying start. All players that travelled got to contribute and make their mark with improved ball handling, defence and teamwork. It’s also a timely confidence boost for a much more difficult test at home next Sunday 25th vs Galwegians
