Carrick-on-Shannon Rugby Club can add another international to itβs ranks of players but this time with a twist as Liam McNamee has been named on the Spain squad that will take part in the World U20 Rugby Cup in Italy.
Liam McNamee was named as part of the Spanish U20’s Mens Squad for the upcoming U20 Rugby World Cup which will be held from June 29 to July 19 in Italy. Liam, who qualifies for Spain under the parentage rule, has been trialling with the panel in recent weeks and today was selected as part of the final 30 man squad that travels to Italy.
Spain has been drawn into Group B alongside three giants of international rugby: France, Argentina, and Wales
Liam has had a fantastic run in recent times culminating most recently in his selection for the Connacht Junior Men’s Squad for the Junior Interprovincial Series last month
Ireland also take part in the competition and are drawn in Pool C alongside New Zealand, Georgia and Italy
Spain’s group stage schedule:
Sunday, June 29 β 6:00 PM: France vs. Spain (Payanini Center, Verona)
Thursday, July 4 β 8:30 p.m.: Argentina vs. Spain (Battaglini Stadium, Rovigo)
Wednesday, July 9 β 3:30 PM: Wales vs. Spain (Payanini Center, Verona)
The semi-finals and finals will be played between July 14 and 19.
